With the Commonwealth Games beginning on Thursday 24 July 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland, our attention turns to Australia’s best chances to win gold in the pool.
Day 1 – Thursday 24 July 2014
Our best chance for gold is the Women’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay event. The Australian girls won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and with a fit and healthy Cate and Bronte Campbell, the girls team will be very hard to beat.
Day 2 – Friday 25 July 2014
Not to be outdone, the Mon’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay team will also be looking to win gold on night two. Australia is the reigning Commonwealth Champions and with Cameron McEvoy and James Magnussen in solid form they will be a hard team to beat.
Day 3 – Saturday 26 July 2014
In what will be one of the most exciting races of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Australia’s World Champion Christian Sprenger will race against the Olympic Champion Cameron Van Der Burgh for the gold medal. This race promises to be one of the highlights of the games.
Day 4 – Sunday 27 July 2014
The Men’s 100m freestyle will be another much watched event at the Commonwealth Games with James Magnussen (2012 Olympic Silver Medallist) racing Cameron McEvoy (2014 National Champion) expected to fight it out for the gold medal.
Day 5 – Monday 28 July 2014
The Women’s 100m freestyle will be another exciting event to watch with 2013 World Champion Cate Campbell going in as the hot favourite with Emma McKeon in hot form and Cate’s sister Bronte expected to challenge.
Day 6 – Tuesday 29 July 2014
The fastest combination of swimmers from each of the 100m events will come together to form the Men’s and Women’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay teams. Both are expected to be very competitive and will be striving to win gold in Glasgow.
